Last week, Campbellsville Christian Church fed nearly 1,000 people at our July 4th breakfast! That's a lot of people who we hope saw God's love in us through a hot breakfast and smiling faces.

It takes a lot to pull this off. So how do we do it? I'll tell you, but first, let me tell you why we do it.

The Why

Jesus on a few occasions stopped what he was doing to feed large crowds of people. In Matthew 14:14 we read, "When Jesus landed and saw a large crowd, he had compassion on them and healed their sick." Sometime later, it's getting late. The disciples knew the people needed to eat, but one small problem...they are in the middle of nowhere and the nearby towns don't have the capacity to feed this crowd. There wasn't a Mcdonald, Druther, Harden or Dunkin to satisfy the hunger these people had. What they did have was Jesus. Jesus takes one boy's happy meal and miraculously feeds at least 5,000 people!

If you came through the breakfast line on July 4th, we're so glad you did! It was great to see you. The reason we serve breakfast each year is not because we love getting up at 5am to cook gallons of gravy! We do it because we love you! That may sound odd because we don't really know you and you don't really know us. How can we love you if we don't really know you? Well, we love you because God loves you. Yes, that's a simple truth but it's one that drives everything we do. We love you because you are made in God's image. God has a purpose and a plan for your life. Even if you feel like the boy with nothing more than a happy meal to offer, that's okay! God sees what you have and knows how to multiply it!

So, if you're looking for a church, we'd love for you to be our guest on Sunday.

The How

What does it take to feed nearly 1,000 people breakfast on July 4th?

  • tithes and offerings from our congregation to buy food.
  • the local fire department giving us ice from their ice machine.
  • the Campbellsville school district to bulk order food and supplies for us.
  • around 40 volunteers to cook, serve, greet, and clean up.
  • an assembly line to pack each food box
  • 14 trips to Dunkin to refill the coffee
  • hours of prayer for the event and you
  • over 10 gallons of gravy
  • 40 dozen donuts (and we always need more)
  • one large tent

All of that starts with the faith to say, "Jesus, this is what we have. What can you do with it?"
